Highlights 2004

Pacific Albatross Network (PAN) Training and Development Program, June 7 - 11, 2004

As part of the pilot phase of the Teachers of the Future Initiative (TOFI) two PAN foundation members, Teremoana Hodges and Luisa Kamenio, were sponsored by UNESCO Australia and its TOFI partner organisations to take part in an intensive training program in Melbourne. The program aimed to familiarise Luisa and Moana with the TOFI website and how to use the collaboration tools made available to PAN members for teaching and learning.

On the afternoon of Moana's arrival in Melbourne, the first official activity was a tour to St Joseph's Primary School in Collingwood. One of the highlights was a welcome performance from the local Cook Islands Community Dance Group which includes students from the school.

At the Victorian Distance Education Centre Luisa and Moana were welcomed by Prinicipal Bronwyn Stubbs and Assistant Principal Maria Karvouni. The visitors were given an insight into the use of
e-learning technologies in teaching students in remote areas.

Moana, Luisa and Bronwyn visited John Paul College Frankston where they were warmly welcomed by PAN member, Brett Barber and his colleagues in the Science Centre. At the time of our visit students were engaged in a robotics class.

The John Paul College Resource Centre also generated a great deal of interest in the ways students incorporate ICT in their learning and many opportunities for professional exchange.

TOFI Website Launch Australia May 2004

The launch of the Teachers of the Future Initiative website and the commencement of the Pan Albatross Network was a cause for celebration for those involved in the initial development and implementation of this initiative. Those of us based in, or passing through Melbourne on the evening of Monday 17 th May gathered at Meccabah – one of the city’s great eating venues - for a Middle Eastern feast to toast the occasion.
