About the Initiative

The purpose of the Teachers of the Future Initiative is to provide a place for educators in Pacific nations to be involved in online professional learning and networking.

This project supports UNESCO’s emphasis on Education For All, the promotion of collaborative partnerships, the free exchange of ideas and knowledge, and equitable access to opportunities and outcomes that are relevant to life-long learning.

In particular, the project hopes to encourage professional dialogue and exchange of resources that will enhance teacher quality and professional learning, especially in maths, science and technology, peace and values education, assessment and reporting and program evaluation. Participants are also welcome to introduce other educational themes that are relevant to their local contexts.

At this stage, the Teachers of the Future Initiative has three components:

  • the Teachers of the Future Initiative (TOFI) website provides an online environment for connecting and exchanging wth other educators
  • the Pacific Albatross Network (PAN) is the community of educators who access password protected areas to collaborate with each other
  • the Pacific Albatross Network (PAN) Training and Development program provides an opportunity for TOFI members to participate in an ICT immersion program using the TOFI website and collaboration tools
